The practice of this cabinet in the Swabian city of Friedberg, meanwhile, has become very widespread. It is not clear exactly how many doctors’ offices accept only vaccinated, ill and tested. However, with the help of search engines on the Internet, it can be seen that the addresses of dozens of offices with a similar requirement are quickly popping up.
Mixed reactions
The three patients waiting in front of the office in Friedberg approved the measure of the doctors. The doctors themselves emphasize that the reactions of their patients are entirely positive. Only one patient has so far expressed dissatisfaction.
We meet the woman outside, in front of the office, and she says: “In some cases, such a restriction is fatal. What should I do if I have severe abdominal pain, but instead of going to the doctor I am forced to go to a pharmacy first to do a test? What if I have a ruptured appendix? I think the right to medical care is basically human right and should not be limited to people who have been vaccinated, got sick or tested. “
Orthopedist Schwartz does not accept these arguments and says: “Our children, who are the biggest losers in this pandemic, have to be tested three times a week to be able to go to school. So I don’t understand what the problem is. a single test “.
In another office in the same city, dentist Alexander Niederle had just received another patient. He is at relatively high risk because his patients cannot wear masks during treatment, and the drill disperses aerosols that can spread viruses through the air. However, the dentist does not restrict access to the office for the unvaccinated or untested. “Whoever has chosen such a profession is obliged to accept that it is associated with a higher occupational risk,” he said.
However, orthopedist Dr. Bauer responded: “This is not about the risk of the medical profession in general. We are talking about risks that can be avoided.”
The Bavarian Doctors’ Association, working with public health funds, does not accept such arguments. The president of the Association, Christian Berger, said: “Doctors must help everyone. Any discrimination – whether because of skin color or the presence of vaccination – is unacceptable.” According to him, patients have the right to file complaints against doctors for denied medical care. A legal issue that policy needs to clarify
“There’s certainly a legal problem here,” admits orthopedist Bauer, who practices the restriction. He added: “On the other hand, the opinion of the Medical Association is not a law that we are obliged to comply with.” According to the doctor, it is right for politics to clarify this dispute.
The Bavarian Ministry of Health has already clarified that, with a certain level of infection, access to indoor facilities is only allowed for those who have been vaccinated, have become ill and have been tested. However, this provision of the local Infection Protection Act does not apply to doctors’ offices.
However, there is a way to solve the dilemma of doctors – for the unvaccinated there are special hours of examination, in which there are no other patients in the waiting room.
