Former Deputy Chief of Police Komjen (Purn) Oegroseno spoke about the premeditated murder case of Brigadier N Yosua Hutabarat who was allegedly masterminded by the former Head of the Propam Polri Division Freddy Sambo. He is concerned about this case.
“If that’s the case Mr Freddy SamboI think I’m also concerned,” said Oegroseno after the trial at the South Jakarta District Court, Friday (20/1/2023).
Oegroseno himself was present at the South Jakarta District Court as a mitigating witness in the case of vandalizing the CCTV which hampered the investigation into the murder of Brigadier Yosua. He was present as a mitigating witness for the defendant, former Karo Paminal Polri, Hendra Kurniawan.
Oegroseno said that he had served as Head of the Propam Polri Division in 2009-2010. According to him, Sambo’s treatment of Joshua was excessive.
“If the subordinates are wrong, the subordinates are our children, our younger siblings, why should they be killed? That should not happen,” explained Oegroseno.
“That’s like someone who wants to say revenge but the motive hasn’t been revealed. I’ve never seen the real motive. But if you can, don’t do it,” he added.
Oegroseno said that the relationship between superiors and aides in the Polri institution must be treated like one family.
“So once again a big family, yes, there are younger siblings, there are older siblings, they are considered like parents there. That kind of relationship must be maintained,” he said.
Regarding the life sentence imposed on Freddy Sambo, Oegroseno was reluctant to speculate. He left the legal process to the panel of judges who would determine the verdict.
“We follow aja,” said Oegroseno.
Oegroseno also expressed his opinion regarding the case of destroying the CCTV which was seen as an obstacle to the investigation into the murder of Brigadier Yosua. He considered that the case should have been handled ethically.
“I am monitoring this case a long time ago. So my wish is to save the National Police in the future. Why? Because if it is associated with OOJ (obstruction of justice) that, the duties of the Police are related to the TKP. So it’s possible that the police were negligent, or didn’t know, or accidentally, don’t immediately OOJ,” said Oegroseno.
There are seven police officers who have been named as suspects in the CCTV destruction case, viz Freddy Sambo, Hendra Kurniawan, Agus Nurpatria, Chuck Putranto, Baiquni Wibowo, Irfan Widyanto, Arif Rachman Arifin. Oegroseno assessed that the actions of the suspects should have been resolved through an ethics trial mechanism within the National Police.
“So, just internal ethics is enough. Like if this is allowed to happen, traffic accidents will occur, the police will enter the TKP and can OOJ. Hopefully the judge can decide. For me there was a mistake in handling the TKP, enough for the ethics trial,” concluded Oegroseno.
