Do I Need Antibody Tests After the Covid-19 Vaccine?

Jakarta, CNN Indonesia

Antibody test began to be widely discussed in Indonesia. Not a few people have been exposed Covid-19 or have even been vaccinated to do this test to see how strongly the body produces antibodies to fight the Corona virus.

Is it necessary to have an antibody test after a Covid-19 vaccination?

In some countries, including Indonesia, this antibody test has not been recommended. Moreover, tests on people who have been vaccinated against Covid-19.

Internal Medicine Specialist and Vaccination, Dirga Sakti Rambe, said that until now there are no exact figures that determine how high the test results can state that the body’s immune or antibodies have been able to fight Covid-19.

“There is no health organization, neither the WHO nor the Ministry of Health, that recommends antibody testing after vaccines,” said Dirga during a live Instagram session with the Ministry of Health, Wednesday (25/8).

Because, continued Dirga, basically everyone who has been vaccinated against Covid-19 antibodies in his body have been formed to fight Covid-19.

When an antibody test is performed, a number will appear that shows how strong the antibodies are in the body. However, there are no studies that show the best exact numbers against this vaccine.

“There is no agreement on what the ideal number is,” said Dirga affirming.

Therefore, this antibody test is not recommended. However, if there are people who still want an antibody test, it should be done after two weeks of vaccination.

“Do not immediately check for antibodies after the vaccine. This has not yet been formed,” said Dirga.

Still Must Take Care of Health

On the same occasion, Dirga also said that even though he had been vaccinated, the possibility of being exposed to Covid-19 was still there. However, the level of symptoms experienced by someone who has and has never been vaccinated is certainly different.

He stated, people who have never been vaccinated have absolutely no antibodies, so there is no significant resistance from the body when this virus enters.

“If you have been vaccinated, as soon as the virus enters, antibodies will be formed immediately, the chances of death are small,” said Dirga.

He also asked the public to continue implementing health protocols even though they had vaccinated up to two doses.

“If the injection in the morning is not immune, it will take time, if you have two vaccines, two weeks after the second vaccine, you will still be disciplined in the process, meaning that this is still a pandemic. We will do everything we can so that our protection can be good,” he said.
