The final tournament of the Association of Tennis Professionals (ATP) in the “Tokyo 1970” group in London on Monday began with the success of Serbian Novak Djokovic and Russian Danil Medvedev.

Djokovic, the world leader, defeated Argentine Diego Schwartzman 6-3, 6-2.

The 33-year-old Serb was crowned the world number one for the sixth time on Sunday, but in his first group match in London he had to overcome an unstable start.

Mistakes in the servings led to a break in favor of the Argentine in the third game, but he remained confident in his strength, earning a 5-3 lead.

The eighth-numbered Schwartzman, who is in London for the first time in the end-of-season tournament, collapsed in the second set, losing his serving game in the first and fifth games, while Djokovic won with a blow to Schwarzmann in 78 minutes.

Meanwhile, Russian Danil Medvedev defeated Alexander Zverev from Germany 6-3, 6-4, winning the first victory of his career in the final tournaments of the season.

Medvedev, who lost in all three games last year, ranks second in the group after success.

It has already been reported that in the “London 2020” group, on Sunday, the second-place owner of the world ranking Nadals won the debutant of this tournament from Russia Andrei Rublev (ATP 8th) with 6-3, 6-4. Austrian Dominik Tim (3rd) defeated last year’s champion Stefan Cicip from Greece (6th) in the first duel with 7-6 (7: 5), 4-6, 6-3.

The ATP final tournament in London at the O2 Arena will take place from 15 to 22 November. This year marks the 50th anniversary of the tournament, which was first held in Tokyo in 1970.

Stun Smith won the laurels of victory in Tokyo 50 years ago.

This will be the 12th time that the final tournament will take place in London, but next year the competition is planned in Turin.
