Dives unsuccessful after missing Böötler in Walensee

In the Walensee off Walenstadt, a man is missing who, on Whit Monday, went on an excursion in an inflatable boat with two other people. “He left the boat to go swimming and disappeared into the water for unknown reasons,” says Hanspeter Krüsi, media spokesman for the St.Gallen cantonal police, upon request from FM1Today. “There was shouting several hundred meters from the bank.”

Search continues

At 3:30 p.m., a passerby finally raised the alarm. Divers, the sea rescue, the Rega and several police patrols with drones searched for the missing person from Monday to sunset. “There were several dives, but unfortunately they were unsuccessful.”

The emergency services want to continue their mission on Tuesday morning at 5 a.m. and search the Walensee bank. With the help of the Zurich Maritime Police, a solar system is also to be lowered at the point at which the man was last seen. “These images can be viewed on board the ship and are comparable to ultrasound images,” explains Hanspeter Krüsi.

«Must assume death»

The police estimate that the lake at the sink point is around 40 meters deep. The current water temperature is a cool 16 degrees according to the Meteonews weather service. “Unless the man has swum ashore, we unfortunately have to assume that he can only be recovered dead,” says police spokesman Krüsi.

Use also in Schaffhausen

A large-scale search is also currently underway in Schaffhausen. According to media reports, a man was washed down the Rhine Falls.
