Wesel/Wesel district/Duisburg/Krefeld/Viersen district/Mönchengladbach/Kleve district. At the weekend, 80 delegates from the Free Democrats on the Lower Rhine met in Wesel to elect a new board. As a special guest, Federal Minister of Justice Dr. Marco Buschmann welcomes. In his speech he spoke about the successful work of the state government, the Ukraine war and the current Corona policy.

The district party conference of the FDP Niederrhein has confirmed Dietmar Brockes, a member of the Bruges state parliament, as district chairman for a further two years. He is supported by Otto Fricke, member of the Bundestag from Krefeld, Constantin Borges from Moers and Wilhelm Bies from Duisburg as deputy chairmen. Boris Gulan from the district of Kleve-Geldern was elected treasurer, Daniel Winkens from Mönchengladbach was elected secretary and Eric Scheuerle was elected press spokesman for Viersen.

“On February 24, the world was turned upside down,” the FDP minister from the Ruhr area introduces the Ukraine war. As a result of Russia’s war of aggression against Ukraine, Germany has decided on a series of measures and sanctions. At the party conference in Wesel, Buschmann emphasized that the economic sanctions are having an effect. It is now important to act quickly and effectively against the rising fuel prices. The lawyer explains that a reduction in VAT on fuel, which some parties want, is not possible for legal reasons. Instead, he announces quick relief, which is to be paid out unbureaucratically to the citizens. In his role as Minister of Justice, he also announced that war criminals from the Ukraine war would be prosecuted in Germany if they were caught.

The Minister of Justice justified the current easing of the corona measures by saying that high numbers of infections are no longer an indicator that two weeks later the number of patients in the hospitals will increase: “It was always the goal of the corona measures to maintain the health system ’” explains Bushman. Therefore, the easing is just right at the moment.

The chairman of the FDP Niederrhein, Dietmar Brockes, took the same line in his speech: “The corona pandemic still determines politics and social life in Germany. Nevertheless, paths must now be taken that show a way out of the lockdown and encroachments on fundamental rights.”. Brockes emphasizes that the FDP is making a noticeable difference in the federal and state governments and is always insisting on a return to normality.
