The disruption between Amsterdam Central Station and Utrecht Central Station has been resolved reports ProRail. It is therefore possible to restart train traffic to and from Utrecht Central Station. The advice for travelers remains to check the travel planner carefully before departure.
Train traffic around Utrecht was seriously disrupted at the end of the afternoon. The cause was a power failure that led to a signal failure at Abcoude. Train traffic to and from Utrecht Central Station was no longer possible and the station hall in Utrecht was full of stranded people.
Travelers responded with resignation, even though some had been waiting for a train for a few hours:

Although train traffic is restarting, it will take some time before everything runs normally again. A spokesperson for ProRail previously said that “the blockage is in such a large area that when the trains can run again, equipment and drivers are not in the right place. Then the entire logistics puzzle will have to be put back together and So it will really take a while before everything is running again.” NS does expect everyone to come home tonight.
ProRail is still investigating what caused the power outage. The result was that the system that controls all signals and switches became disrupted. “The system runs on two power supplies and they were both defective. One has been replaced, allowing train traffic to restart, but we still remain vulnerable,” said a ProRail spokesperson. “We are working hard to restore the second feeding as well.”
The NS expects that everything will be able to run according to schedule again tomorrow. However, some trains may be a little shorter and therefore travelers should take into account more crowds. The advice to check the travel planner shortly before departure remains.
Money Back
The usual money back scheme applies to tonight’s outage. If you are delayed by more than half an hour, you will receive half the fare back, and if you are delayed by more than an hour, you will receive the full amount. The money can be requested back via the website from NS.
