The CRTC has once again ordered Bell to include TVA Sports in its most popular television package.
This is what TVA Group said on Friday, which welcomes this second CRTC decision recognizing that the giant Bell has given an undue preference to its RDS channel. In a confidential letter, the regulatory body said that the new assembly structure proposed by Bell still did not comply with the decision published in December 2019.
“This new CRTC decision highlights once again Bell’s bad faith and the anti-competitive practices it unscrupulously engages in to dominate the market,” said TVA Group, a Quebecor subsidiary, in a press release.
In this case, Quebecor claims to be the victim of a significant inequity on the part of Bell, which would favor its own sports channel, RDS, which would have a financial impact on its competitor TVA Sports.
Last December, the CRTC ruled that TVA Sports should be included in Bell’s most popular television package, no later than February 5.
“It is unacceptable that Bell has once again tried to slyly circumvent the rules in order to continue to promote its own channel to the detriment of TVA Sports,” said France Lauzière, President and CEO of TVA Group and Head of Content, Quebecor Content, by press release Friday.
“If Bell’s failure to respect the decision rendered by the CRTC was certain since last February, it is now patent,” she added.
