Disney is not giving up Blu-ray but will study each of its releases on a case-by-case basis. The Fox catalog and more low-key box office films could skip the physical sale stage.

An article from Digital Bits announced that the company was no longer considering Blu-ray releases for a large majority of its catalog. When asked by Forbes, Disney quickly deny the rumors, with some subtleties all the same. A spokesperson explains: “We don’t intend to stop releasing our films in a particular format. We assess on a case-by-case basis and pursue the best strategy to deliver our content to consumers’ homes on platforms that meet a variety of demands ”. Thus, the firm confirms in half a word, a gradual abandonment of the format to the profile of an entirely digital distribution. The goal for the firm with big ears, to reduce production costs and keep control of its works by offering them on Disney + and in 4K. On the other hand, it is unlikely that this decision will apply to the pundits of its catalog such as Marvel, Star Wars or even Disney-stamped films.
