Discovered a new asteroid headed for Earth | International | News

Two teenage students in India discovered that an asteroid is heading to planet Earth.

This was the conclusion reached after the analysis of images taken by the Pan-SATARRS telescope from the University of Hawaii, United States.

The asteroid, now named HLV2514, is currently close to the planet Mars and is estimated to pass through Earth’s orbit in a million years, according to the private institute Space India, where the two teenagers have received classes.

The asteroid may be baptized with another name when NASA confirms its orbit, according to Space India.

The two students are called Vaidehi Vekariya and Radhika Lakhani. Both are from the city of Surat, west of the country, and found the object as part of an asteroid search campaign carried out by Space India and members of the International Astronomical Search Collaboration (IASC), made up of scientists related to NASA, according Reuters.

The HLV2514 images were taken in June using specialized software. (I)
