Discover the Hidden Gems of New York: Six New Places to Visit in the Big Apple

New York is one of those cities that is constantly reinventing itself. Sprawling, whimsical, inventive, the Big Apple is constantly looking for new artistic places, restaurants, markets and museums, scattered throughout its “ boroughs » (neighborhoods), from Harlem to Brooklyn via Greenwich.

For those who feel lost in the face of the abundance of New York proposals, our colleagues at National Geographic have drawn up a list of new places to discover in this megalopolis.

Le Perelman Performing Arts Center

To discover this new performance venue, which some call “PACNYC”, you have to get off at the World Trade Center station, in the south of the island of Manhattan. Opening in September 2023, the Perelman Performing Arts Center is a venue designed to highlight emerging artists in all fields: dance, music, theater, circus, etc. And sometimes some more well-known figures.

Located in a translucent marble cube with remarkable architecture, the PACNYC also includes a restaurant, the Metropolis, which should satisfy the most demanding gourmets since it is run by the famous American-Swedish chef Marcus Samuelsson.

L’Overstory

What would New York be without its extremely famous “ skyline », its horizon made of skyscrapers out of sight ? To overlook the panorama and observe it in complete serenity, a new place opened in 2022: the Overstory, a cocktail bar nestled on the sixty-fourth floor of a building in southern Manhattan, a few minutes’ walk from PACNYC.

In true New York tradition, the cocktail menu at Overstory mixes something new with something old, like this “ terroir old fashioned ”, made with reposado tequila, Palo Santo infusion and salt, which should allow you to relax while admiring the city.

The Gansevoort Peninsula

Inaugurated in October, the Gansevoort Peninsula is officially the very first public beach in New York and an exceptional place for leisure and relaxation. Spanning 2.2 hectares along the Hudson River, the peninsula consists of a strip of sand imported from neighboring New Jersey, sports fields and a salt marsh.

Major advantage: the Gansevoort Peninsula is located in Lower Manhattan, close to of the biggest museums and performance halls in the city. Enough to take a breath of fresh air after filling yourself with culture.

The Jupiter

The Jupiter is located on the ground floor of Rockefeller Center, one of the city’s most iconic buildings. Adjoining the very famous ice rink, this very chic restaurant offers a high-end menu, composed of seafood, grilled quail with charcoal eggplant and spaghetti with capers and anchovies.

And if these few suggestions don’t convince you, two other gourmet restaurants opened in the same location at the end of 2022: the Rock and the 5 Acres, which also offer very high quality cuisine.

Le Moynihan Connector

Located southwest of the island of Manhattan, in the Hudson Yards district, the Moynihan Train Hall extends an urban park following the route of a now disused railway line. Opening in June 2023, the Moynihan Connector consists of an 80-meter bridge made of Nootka cypress, lined with trees along its length.

To recharge your batteries on this peaceful path, isolated from the frenzy of the city, all you have to do is go west of 30th or 31st Street, to the edge of the High Line Park.
