“Discover Sunday’s available vaccination sites in Lima and Callao for Covid-19.”

The Ministry of Health (Minsa) has implemented new vaccination points against covid-19, as well as centers for discarding the same infection. In addition, it continues with the application of the bivalent vaccine to the population from 18 to 59 years of age who have received the four doses of the antigen, as long as 2 months have passed since the last vaccine.

The Minsa adds that, in the case of those over 60 years of age, they will be able to receive this vaccine if they have already received the three doses after 2 months of receiving the previous one.

He explains that the bivalent vaccine is a booster against covid-19, so called because it contains two protective components that allow a better immune response from the body against an infection.

The first component protects you from the original virus, while the second component protects you from the world’s prevalent omicron variant lineages.

Therefore, the bivalent vaccine will not only prevent hospitalizations, admission to intensive care units and deaths, but it could also stop the transmission of the disease or asymptomatic infection.

According to the Minsa, in Peru the bivalent vaccine is used as a booster, therefore, for its application it is necessary to have previous vaccinations of the regular scheme (monovalent).

Who can receive it?

You can receive the application of the bivalent vaccine against covid-19, if you have:

– 18 to 59 years, after 2 months of having applied the fourth dose of the monovalent vaccine.

– 60 years or more, after 2 months of having applied the third or fourth dose.

The Minsa specifies that, in the case of adults over 60 years of age and people with a risk factor, the fourth dose is optional to receive the bivalent vaccine.

In the case of pregnant women, they may receive the bivalent vaccine after 12 weeks of gestation, as long as 2 months have passed since the fourth dose.

Meanwhile, cancer patients will be able to receive the bivalent vaccine 3 months after the fourth dose and only if they have finished their cancer treatment, following their doctor’s recommendation.

Currently the bivalent only applies to people over 18 years of age. Those under 18 years of age receive 3 doses of the monovalent vaccine against covid-19.
