Disband BPIP, Uncontextual Competition During Covid

Jakarta, CNN Indonesia

Ulama from West Sumatra Anwar Abbas suggested that the Pancasila Ideology Development Agency (Pancasila)BPIP) is disbanded. He assessed that the institution led by Megawati Soekarnoputri did not have social sensitivity in the midst of the Covid-19 pandemic.

Anwar’s statement was in response to the writing competition themed ‘Respect the Flag according to Islamic Law’ and ‘Singing the National Anthem according to Islamic Law’ held by BPIP.

“My conclusion is that BPIP should just be disbanded. It’s not like what, the competition is not contextual. People are still having Covid issues with the flag law,” Anwar told reporters. CNNIndonesia.com, Friday (13/8).

Anwar said that there were many relevant and contextual themes for holding a competition to celebrate Santri Day. He then gave an overview of the current situation.

He says every day sees mothers shopping. However, every time a vegetable seller passes by, these women no longer leave the house because they have no money.

“Now there is a lot of poverty. He should be present, BPIP appears. Where is the Pancasilaist? Yes, it helps. Motivate children to care about the Covid problem,” he said.

“Why not compete; What is the role of students in dealing with Covid, right? The role of students in dealing with economic problems, right?” said the Islamic economist.

In addition, Anwar also believes that the BPIP competition will only provoke division and suspicion between groups. He said the theme has the potential to make people suspicious of the national values of the students.

“In the end, if there are legal writings, it’s haram to use it as a tool to beat students, right?” he said.

“Even though we flew the flag before we became independent,” he added.

Separately, the Vice Chairman of the Indonesian Ulema Council (MUI) Marsudi Syuhud considered it a normal article writing competition held by BPIP. He called the theme raised in line with Santri Day and ahead of August 17.

In addition, he also said that the competition did not have a tendency towards certain beliefs or groups.

“In my opinion, it’s normal to commemorate Santri Day. Because students say that students are usually Muslim. Yes, so that students are trained to write,” he said.

The national level article writing competition was informed by BPIP by uploading it to the Twitter account @BPIPRI on Wednesday (11/8). Since the upload was published, many parties have questioned the urgency of the competition with such a theme. Some even think that the competition is counterproductive.

Responding to the criticism, the Special Staff of the Chairman of the BPIP Steering Committee, Antonius Benny Susetyo, said that the choice of theme was adjusted to the context of Santri Day. According to him, BPIP sees the importance of religious values in responding to love for the homeland.

“It is adjusted to the Santri Day. The same applies to respecting the flag according to Christianity, Hinduism, Buddhism, Catholicism, Confucianism,” he said.
