Director Oleg Sentsov: From Russian Prison to Fighting Against Invasion – A Remarkable Journey

Director Oleg Sentsov, 47, is behind critically acclaimed films such as “Gamer,” “Nomery” and “Rhino,” the latest of which was released two years ago. But the journey has not been easy for the Crimea-born filmmaker, who spent more than five years in a Russian prison after protesting Russia’s occupation of Crimea on the Ukrainian peninsula, and now works as a special agent in the fight against Russia’s invasion of Ukraine. Part of the troops was stationed in the Zaporozhye region.

There, he suffered shrapnel wounds to his face, which fortunately seemed to be relatively well for him and the rest of his team.in hisFacebookOn the page, he often writes about life at war with Russia, explaining:

“Three people were injured, most with broken bones. Have been pulled out of my face, small things on my hands and feet will stay with me forever. Others are fine too – Dr Zaporozhye knows their stuff, thank you!

A few weeks ago, he also shared an account of his motivation, explaining that his wife and children were in the country after their initial departure:

“I am so proud of the woman I love. Although we are often separated now, our bond will only grow stronger. I am so happy that Veronica and Demian are back in Ukraine despite some risks. Having a home , your family is waiting for you, it gives another level of motivation up front. You know exactly who you are risking your life for, you know exactly who you have to survive for.
