?Jakarta: Director of Postgraduate Studies at YARSI University, Prof. Tjandra Yoga Aditama, believes that going home for Eid does not have the potential to increase cases of Dengue Hemorrhagic Fever (DHF) in Indonesia.? The reason is that dengue fever transmission is caused by mosquito bites.

“Because transmission is through mosquito bites, if there is an impact on community mobility, it is not the dominant cause,” said Yoga when contacted, Tuesday?, 9? April 2024.

It is known that in the 14th week of this year, dengue cases reached 60,296 cases with 455 deaths. This figure has increased several times compared to last year in the same week.

Yoga said that if it is included in the category then the government should implement ?Extraordinary Events (KLB)? DHF to maximize infrastructure in handling it.

“However, even without high mobility such as going home, the current increase in cases must be handled optimally, and the indicators also assessed to know whether an outbreak can be declared or not,” he said.

One of the reasons for the increase in dengue fever cases in Indonesia is weather factors which influence the life cycle of mosquitoes which are also increasing.

Weather changes affect mosquitoes because the life cycle of mosquitoes from laying eggs to adult mosquitoes becomes faster. As a result, there has been an increase in dengue cases from the Aedes aegypti mosquito.

The highest cases of dengue fever include Tangerang Regency with 2,540 cases, Bandung City with 1,741 cases, West Bandung Regency with 1,422 cases, Lebak Regency with 1,326 cases, and Depok City with 1,252 cases.

Meanwhile, the areas with the highest number of deaths were in Bandung Regency with 25 deaths, Jepara Regency with 21 deaths, Subang Regency with 18 deaths, Kendal Regency with 16 deaths, and Bogor Regency with 13 deaths. (M. Iqbal Al Machmudi)
