Dining inside while traveling will be difficult without a corona pass

Several European countries impose restrictions on people who are not fully vaccinated against the coronavirus or who cannot present a negative test.

If you have planned a trip abroad this summer, it is best to inform yourself about the measures that apply at the holiday destination before leaving. Not only to be allowed to enter a country, more and more governments are demanding a negative corona test, proof of full vaccination or of a recent recovery from an infection. Also on site, catering, museums and events are increasingly off limits for those who cannot present a corona certificate. An overview.

France

Throughout the weekend, there were street protests in France against the controversial extension of the ‘pass sanitaire’, the health pass. More than 160,000 people took to the streets on Saturday. Riots broke out on the Champs-Élysées in Paris at the end of the demonstration.

Despite the protests, the French parliament gave the green light to the stricter rules in the night from Sunday to Monday. If the French constitutional court stops working in the next few days, people will have to show a vaccination certificate in catering establishments from the beginning of August, even if they want to sit on the terrace.

The same rules apply to (trade) fairs, medical institutions – with the exception of the emergency service – and plane, train and bus journeys over longer distances. Prefects can also require a corona pass in large shopping centers.

Since July 21, visitors to French museums, cinemas and event locations have already had to prove that they have been vaccinated against the corona virus or tested negative.

On paper, the measures also apply to children from 12 years old. But ‘in order not to spoil the holiday of tens of thousands of families’, the French politicians decided to exempt 12 to 17-year-olds from the corona pass requirement until September 30.

The new measures will remain in effect until November 15. An extension cannot be ruled out ‘if the epidemiological situation so requires’.

Italy

In Italy, the ‘green pass’ – the counterpart of our corona certificate – mandatory in more and more places from 6 Augustt. These include museums, theatres, theme parks, casinos, gyms, swimming pools, sports stadiums, concert halls and the interior spaces of cafes and restaurants. The corona certificate is not necessary on the terrace or in the open air.

Unlike in France – where a full vaccination is mandatory – Italians already receive a ‘green pass’ after one vaccine dose. Anyone who has not yet received an injection must submit a negative (rapid) test of a maximum of 48 hours old or a proof of recovery of a maximum of six months old. The green pass is mandatory for all Italians from 12 years old.

Spain

Also in Spain, another popular holiday destination for Belgians, the corona pass has made its appearance in two regions. Since Saturday, people in the municipalities with increasing infections in Galicia are only allowed to sit inside the catering industry if they can present a corona certificate.

Operators must verify that customers are fully vaccinated, have recently recovered from infection, or have tested negative for the virus in the past 72 hours. The measure applies to everyone from the age of 12.

On Monday, the Canary Islands also introduced the corona pass for people over 18. This is not only mandatory in the catering industry, but also for sports and cultural events that take place indoors.

Portugal

In Portugal, the government is slowly but surely tightening the rules again. In municipalities with a high or very high risk of contamination, including Lisbon, Porto, Coimbra, Faro, Sintra and Setúbal, customers can only dine indoors in restaurants from 7 p.m. Friday to Sunday evening and on public holidays if they can present the European corona certificate or a negative corona test.

A PCR test must be performed within 72 hours prior to the visit. A negative rapid test also provides access to a restaurant during weekends and holidays. A self-test at the pharmacist should not be older than 24 hours. At the entrance of the establishment, people can take a rapid test under the supervision of the patrons.

Greece

In an effort to quell a new corona outbreak, the Greek government is also introducing stricter rules for those who want to sit inside restaurants, cafes or bars. Those people must demonstrate that they have been fully vaccinated or tested negative. The measure does not apply on terraces.

Customers of nightclubs or visitors to cinemas and theaters must also submit a corona certificate. In addition, they must remain seated.

Germany

If we have a high infection rate despite our testing procedures, the unvaccinated should reduce their contacts.

Helge Braun

Chancellor Angela Merkel’s chief of staff

“If we have a high infection rate despite our testing procedures, the unvaccinated should reduce their contacts,” Braun said. “That could mean that certain options – such as restaurants, cinemas and stadium visits – are no longer possible even for unvaccinated people who have been tested, because the risk is too great for everyone else.”

About 60 percent of the German population has received at least one dose of a corona vaccine. Just under half, 47 percent, have been fully vaccinated. Germany stays there, unlike France, that vaccination will not become mandatory.

Austria

In neighboring Austria, a stay at a hotel or a visit to the hairdresser, a massage parlor, a restaurant, a sports or cultural event, swimming pools, gyms and spas is also possible. already linked to conditions.

Those who recently overcame the lung disease are allowed in. For the time being, proof of a partial vaccination is also sufficient to gain access to all those places. But from August 15, the rules will become stricter. Then a full vaccination is required. All other people are subject to a test obligation.

Children from the age of 12 must be able to present a negative test on all these occasions. In Vienna, the rule even applies to children from 6 years old.

Ireland

In Ireland, the hospitality industry is breathing a sigh of relief. From July 26, owners of restaurants, pubs and other bars will be allowed to serve their customers indoors again, provided they are fully vaccinated or have recovered from an infection with Sars-CoV-2 in the past six months.

For many operators, the measure is the signal to open their doors again for the first time since March 2020. They do hope that the obligation to present a corona pass for a catering visit will soon fall. According to them, it will not be obvious for the staff to enforce the measure.

Israel

Israel, which has long been at the forefront of the vaccination race and therefore also of the relaxation, will reintroduce the vaccination pass at the doors of theaters, stadiums and synagogues from August 8. The pass is proof for a vaccination, recovery from a corona infection or a negative test.

Residents have to pay for the test themselves. For example, the Israeli government hopes to encourage unvaccinated people to get vaccinated. One million Israelis refuse to be vaccinated. More than 56 percent of Israel’s 9.3 million residents have received two doses of the Pfizer/BioNTech vaccine.

The vaccine rejecters are undermining the efforts of all of us.

Naftali Bennett

Israeli Prime Minister

Israeli Prime Minister Naftali Bennett lashed out at vaccine deniers during a press conference. “They undermine the efforts of all of us. If everyone gets the vaccine, life can return to normal. But if one million people refuse, the other eight million will have to undergo lockdowns.’

Belgium

With us, the corona certificate in the Covid Safe app – in which people submit proof that they have already been fully vaccinated for two weeks, have been infected with the corona virus or have undergone a negative corona test – for the time being. limited deployed.

From 13 August, a mouth mask or keeping a distance are no longer mandatory at outdoor events from 1,500 participants, on presentation of such a corona certificate in the Covid Safe app. From September 1, people will also get access to indoor events with their Covid Safe ticket.

The next phase of the Summer Plan will also start from 30 July. This means that events are allowed in from 3,000 people and outside from 5,000. Face masks and respect for the one and a half meters away are still mandatory, because the corona passport can only be used from August 13th.
