Dimitri Chamblas, artist associated with Montpellier Danse

The dancer, choreographer and pedagogue Dimitri Chamblas founded his company in Montpellier, where he became associate artist of Montpellier Danse.

Dimitri Chamblas joined the Paris Opera School of Dance at the age of 10. He co-founded the Edna association with Boris Charmatz in 1992. Together they created the duo Head on presented worldwide and entered the repertoire of the Opéra national de Paris in 2018. After this start as a duo, Dimitri Chamblas has crossed paths with many choreographers as a dancer, including William Forsythe, Boris Charmatz, Mathilde Monnier or Benjamin Millepied.

He has gained international notoriety as a result of his career, which has led him to participate in the creation of Benjamin Millepied’s Los Angeles Dance Project; then in 2015 to become artistic director of the 3e Scène – Opéra national de Paris, before becoming director of dance at the California Institute of the Arts (CalArts) in Los Angeles from 2017 to 2021.

Since 2 January 2023, Dimitri Chamblas and his team have been in residence at the Agora, international city of dance in Montpellier to work on the creation of water and energya piece for twelve professional and as many amateur performers that will see the light in 2024. He co-signs with the musician, painter and author Kim Gordon with whom he recently collaborated on Slow show, a show for fifty performers, question time. (DG)
