Just over a year ago, specifically in September 2019, the Bugatti Chiron exceeded 490 kilometers per hour to set a new world record and become the fastest production car in the world. Several days later, and after exceeding the 300 miles per hour barrier, the French company announced that it was withdrawing from this type of challenge: “Our goal was to be the first manufacturer to reach the magic mark of 300 miles per hour. We have already shown that we make the fastest cars in the world, now we will focus on other areas. ”
Thereafter, other manufacturers such as Koenigsegg or Shelby SuperCars (SSC) have tried to reach that figure and even exceed it. After several attempts, the SSC Tuatara has not only managed to reach the figure of 300 miles per hour, but has beaten it. All this thanks to the skills of the pilot Oliver Webb, who reached a maximum speed of 508.73 kilometers per hour on October 10 in a ten-kilometer stretch on Route 160 (Nevada).
The vehicle reached a maximum speed of 532.93 kilometers per hour with the wind blowing
After overcoming the different requirements to face the challenge, among which we can find some how to participate with a vehicle identical to the one that a normal customer could acquire or use common wheels and fuels, the pilot got on the vehicle and made a first pass in which it registered 532.93 kilometers per hour. However, and as is customary in this type of event, it was necessary to carry out a second pass in the opposite direction to eliminate the effect of wind or slopes and measure between the two.
On this second occasion, the pilot marked a maximum speed of 484.53 kilometers per hour. After taking an average between the two passes, the event organizers found that the SSC Tuatara is the world’s fastest new production car after hitting 508.73 kilometers per hour. But not only that. He also broke other records such as fastest mile run on public highway (503.92 km/h), fastest kilometer launched on public road (517.16 km / h) and the highest speed reached on a public highway with 532.93 kilometers per hour.
This is the new fastest car in the world
The SSC Tuatara is a vehicle powered by a 6.0 V8 engine that can reach 1,775 horsepower if we use fuels such as E98 bioethanol. Despite the fact that its maximum power is reduced if we use ordinary gasoline, it is still a real beast that stands out for a maximum approved speed of 482 kilometers per hour thanks to one of the lowest bodies in the industry.
Despite the fact that the pilot exceeded this barrier, those responsible for the vehicle have decided to put this limit on it. In fact, and as Webb explained at the end of the test, the car could still give more: “The car had something else. With better conditions I think we could have gone faster.”
