Dijon: the Toison d’Or shopping center is authorized to reopen on May 11

The government had indicated that it was up to the prefects to decide to keep a shopping center closed commercial area greater than 40,000 m².
According to the Côte-d’Or prefecture, “only one shopping center could potentially be affected by the issuance of a closure order”, that of La Toison d’Or.

In a press release published Sunday, May 10 at the end of the day, the Prefect explains :

Consideration of the appropriateness of a closure measure also involves taking into account the layout of the shopping center and the dimensions of the living area and the catchment area, in order to assess whether the reopening of the Golden Fleece would lead to a mixing of populations not compatible with strict compliance with health rules and social distancing measures.

Taking into account the surface area of the only shops located inside the shopping mall (criterion adopted by the government) leads to an assessment of the commercial area at just under 40,000 m².
In addition, the Dijon living area is below the threshold of 1 million inhabitants set by the government.
Finally, the catchment area extends only marginally beyond the living area, 7% of the turnover of the Golden Fleece coming from customers from other departments than the Côte-d’Or.

Under these conditions, he announces that :

although the red classification of the Côte-d’Or always calls for the greatest precaution in the application of sanitary rules (…) it does not appear necessary to prohibit the reopening of the Golden Fleece.

He finally specifies that “the commitments of the management of the shopping center to invest in consequent human and organizational resources for the application of sanitary measures, detailed during a meeting in the prefecture last Thursday, should also be highlighted. ”
