Digimon: 5 Pokémon Tai and Agumon could defeat

The original protagonist of Digimon who helped coin the term “Gogglehead,” Taichi (aka Tai) Kamiya, and his Digimon partner Agumon remain one of the most memorable couples the franchise has seen. Together with their friends at DigiDestined, they have been able to do great things and defeat powerful foes, growing stronger over time.

However, even after all these years, the rivalry of Digimon with the always popular Pokémon still strong. After everything Tai and Agumon have been through, there are quite a number of these “pocket monsters” that they could easily defeat, but also some that they would have no chance against.

10 they COULD BEAT: Pikachu because it’s not fully evolved

Agumon versus Pikachu, the two mascots from their respective franchises, and the showdown that would likely come up in the first place. Pikachu is handsome and cuddly, but also quite strong and has been able to perform feats that most common Pokémon could never accomplish. However, against Tai and Agumon, Pikachu would not last.

While there is an argument to be made as to how well Agumon would cope with the electric mouse in his rookie form, all bets are off once Tai brings Agumon to Digivolve. Greymon’s strength and durability alone could make Pikachu shrug very easily. Pikachu’s only hope would be to reach Gigantamax, but Tai and Agumon have experience dealing with giant enemies. The power gap would only increase if Agumon Digivred more.

9 THEY WOULD LOSE: Gardevoir with the ability to create black holes

There are not many Pokémon that are like Gardevoir, both being highly intelligent and capable of connecting with their trainer on a deep emotional level. That bond is probably as close as a Pokémon to a Digimon’s bond with its mate. Against Tai and Agumon, Gardevoir would probably fight at first, even if he’s Mega Evolved, but Gardevoir has an ability that he could use as a last resort.

The Pokédex talks about Gardevoir being able to create black holes to protect his trainer, which could make Gardevoir win the fight even if Agumon reached Mega Level as black holes are inescapable. Would this probably absorb everything, possibly even the coach in question? Most likely, but it would still count as a win.

8 THEY COULD WIN: Just like someone who doesn’t know how to make the most of Agumon’s form

Agumón, with all his various evolutions, has been able to take down many enemies that match his own strength, although something that could copy him, like Ditto, could prove challenging. Ditto can copy anything he sees, even humans, so it’s quite possible that Ditto could even copy a Digimon.

Ditto could copy any of Agumon’s forms, but that doesn’t mean he knows how to take advantage of them. Where Ditto acts more on instinct or on the orders of his trainer, Agumon is smarter and more experienced in battle, so he would be able to exploit openings and weaknesses in ways that Ditto couldn’t.

7 WOULD LOSE: Mewtwo as one of the most powerful Legendary Pokémon.

It is becoming increasingly clear that there is a huge difference in power between most Pokémon and Digimon, to the point where it seems that Legendary Pokémon are almost the only ones in the vast catalog of creatures from Pokémon able to take on digital monsters. One of those Legendary Pokémon that could get the job done for sure is Mewtwo.

Mewtwo’s psychic powers make him insanely powerful even among other Legendaries, making him more than just a match for Tai and Agumon. While WarGreymon may be physically stronger and quicker to follow Mewtwo, Mewtwo’s psychic powers give him more defense options, control over the battlefield, and even regeneration. Furthermore, neither Tai nor WarGreymon have any defense against Mewtwo’s telepathic abilities, essentially Mewtwo could simply take over their minds or erase their memories to end the fight.

6 THEY COULD WIN: Lucario whose strength would not be enough for WarGreymon

A skilled fighter even among fighter-type Pokémon, incredibly fast, and a master of the power of the aura, Lucario would be a tough opponent for many Pokémon. However, against a Digimon and his partner, such as Tai and Agumon, Lucario’s raw strength and power could fall short.

Lucario has plenty of stamina for a long battle, and it can be argued that he could be a match for Greymon and possibly MetalGreymon, but he would probably take advantage of WarGreymon. WarGreymon’s armor has withstood the kind of force that Lucario has been able to deploy to the fullest even when Mega Evolved, and WarGreymon’s speed also surpasses Lucario’s. Not to mention that Agumon’s many fire abilities in all of his forms would be super effective against Lucario.

5 THEY WOULD LOSE: Necrozma who is capable of destroying planets

There are many legendary Pokémon capable of devastating a planet, a solar system, and even a universe, including Necrozma. Even when his energy is depleted, Necrozma is very tough and was able to survive the ravages of time for hundreds of years. However, once it begins to absorb the light, it becomes much more powerful.

While Tai and Agumon (as WarGreymon) may have a chance while Necrozma is in his basic form, the chances of victory begin to diminish once Necrozma begins feeding on the light. Necrozma could absorb his attacks as “Ground Force”, making him stronger and stronger, limiting Tai and Agumon’s offense. Necrozma is capable of absorbing light from an entire universe and if he reaches his ultra form, he could probably slice through WarGreymon’s armor like a hot knife through butter.

4 THEY COULD WIN: Haggle with easily exploited weaknesses

The Regis are known to be at the shallow end of the force pool compared to other Legendaries, and Regice has been notorious as the weakest link between them. While its durability and toughness is high, given the nature of its icy golem body, it has many weaknesses that could easily be exploited by Tai and Agumon.

WarGreymon’s Ground Force is capable of blowing up a mountain, and its claws are strong enough to cut through solid steel, which would already mean that it could easily eliminate Regirock and Registeel, so Regice wouldn’t even have a chance to win. A snowball.

3 THEY WOULD LOSE: Giratina as a Pokémon made of antimatter

Giratina supposedly had some role in helping Arceus shape the universe, but due to her violent behavior, she was banished to the World of Distortion. Giratina is a Pokémon to be feared, as it is made entirely of antimatter, just like the Palkia and Dialga Pokémon of time and space, and is capable of warping reality itself.

In addition to all those things, the Giratina can become intangible, create illusions, manipulate the darkness itself, and has cosmic consciousness. This makes fighting the Giratina almost impossible for Tai and Agumon, but what really makes it exaggerated are the implications that the Giratina may exist conceptually and very possibly is the World of Distortion itself. Tai and Agumon don’t exactly have a way to erase the concept of antimatter.

2 THEY COULD WIN: Rayquaza who would be weak to WarGreymon’s drama killers

When their territory is invaded or Groudon and Kyogre collide, Rayquaza appears on the scene quite quickly. On a good day, Rayquaza is strong enough to fight his fellow Legendaries with ease and destroy cataclysmic meteorites. His strength and speed are hard to match, but WarGreymon might be capable of it.

Admittedly, this match would be quite close as both Rayquaza and WarGreymon have been capable of similar feats of speed and destructive capabilities. However, WarGreymon could win thanks to its armored claws, the “Dramon Killer”, which were designed to slay dragons. Since Rayquaza is weak to dragon-type movements, Dramon Slayers could work the same way.

1 WOULD LOSE: Arceus as the Pokémon God

You can’t dance around this one, Arceusis is basically a god that is above all other Pokémon, a legend among Legendaries. Arceus created the universe Pokémon , which includes the aforementioned Giratina and other powerful Pokémon that it has defeated in the past.

Like Giratina, Arceus is cosmically conscious and exists eternally as an abstract concept and is basically unstoppable, and that’s before he has any of his plates. While Tai and Agumon have faced enemies on the doomsday scales of power, that was with the help of the other DigiDestined. Alone against a being like Arceus, they don’t have a 1% chance.
