Different Views on the Papua Problem, Anies Calls It Injustice, Prabowo Says Separatism, Ganjar Suggests Dialogue

FAJAR.CO.ID, JAKARTA — The problems occurring in Papua were one of the questions asked by panelists in the first presidential candidate debate forum, Tuesday night, (12/12/2023).

“In recent years, the trend of power has increased in Papua. Meanwhile, justice and human rights issues are still unresolved, so the conflict continues. “The question is, what strategy will you prepare to comprehensively resolve human rights and conflict issues in Papua,” said moderator Velerina Daniel explaining the question.

This statement was addressed to presidential candidate number 2 Prabowo Subianto.

Prabowo said that the Papua problem is separatism and is a complicated problem.

“The Papua problem is complicated because there is a separatist movement there. “And we have been following this separatist movement for quite a long time,” said Prabowo.

He mentioned foreign interference in the Papua problem.

“We see that there is foreign interference there. And we see that certain forces always want Indonesia to disintegrate and break up. For this reason, the issue of human rights is something that we must prioritize. “And among other things, we also have to protect all the Papuan people,” he explained.

The Minister of Defense said that terrorist groups in Papua attacked local people.

“Because there the terrorist group is now attacking the Papuan people themselves, innocent people, women, the elderly, unarmed children are being terrorized by this separatist group,” he said.
