The Director General of the IUH Méditerranée Infection, Professor Didier Raoult, was the guest of Laurence Ferrari live from Marseille in #LaMatinale on CNEWS.
During this interview, he notably raised the issue of the vaccine. “For each vaccine, you have to analyze what is the risk and what is the benefit in a given situation,” he said. “I find that for people who are very at risk (…) the benefit is greater than the risk”.
Regarding the re-containment, Didier Raoult underlined that “the real question” was “to find how to detect positive people” and how “to tell them not to go and find negative people”.
“It’s quite striking to see how people who have absolutely no idea what they are talking about, suddenly became the loudspeakers of the country,” he also said of the variants.
“Different viruses”
On this point, he mentioned in particular cases of “reinfection”. “We have about fifty cases of people who have had two episodes of infection with two different viruses,” he said. And to continue: “We defined that at the beginning as a reinfection then we saw that the virus is not the same”.

“What we are experiencing now is not a rebound, it is another epidemic”, underlined Didier Raoult, adding: “all the new cases that we currently have are due to viruses which are different from the viruses that we had in March-April ”.
“It’s not relapses”, he continued, “it is that the immunity provided by the first epidemic, in a certain number of people, is not sufficient to protect against viruses which are close. but a little different ”.
