Beware of fake Facebook links

Experts noted that criminals are more active on Facebook. “Using hijacked or fake accounts, they publish posts on various Facebook groups to encourage readers to click on the malicious link,” we read.

The scheme of how scammers work is as follows. By clicking on a malicious link, a fake request for your Facebook login details is displayed on the screen, e.g. for the purpose of allegedly verifying your age. By providing the details, criminals can hijack your account and use it to further publish fake entries or to extort funds.

What to do after clicking on a suspicious link?

CERT Polska explains what to do in case of clicking a malicious link and providing data. Take the following steps:

  • change passwords and enable two-factor authentication,
  • log out all active sessions on the account,
  • check if unknown applications, e-mail addresses or telephone numbers have been linked to the account.

Experts warn that criminals are constantly active and are modifying their ways of doing things. They recommend that you report suspicious messages when detected at THIS link.
