“DIÁRIO is associated with the reissue of the Political and Administrative Statute of Madeira, almost 21 years after the original, thus giving expression to one of the principles enshrined in its editorial statute, that of ‘defending the interests of the Madeirans and Porto-Santenses, Autonomy, as well as the National interest in which it is integrated ‘. It was in this way that the director of DIÁRIO started his speech this Monday in the presentation of the reissue of the Administrative Political Statute that takes place in the Legislative Assembly of Madeira (ALM).
Is that, added Ricardo Miguel Oliveira, that was the purpose of DIÁRIO, a fact that will be easily remembered in the pages of this media that gave account of the historical unanimity in the Madeiran parliament, on January 14, 1999, “that it was a guarantee that the document that strengthened the Autonomy would be quickly appreciated and voted in the Assembly of the Republic ”.
So it happened, first on the 19th of May in general and then on the 1st of July, with new unanimity, he recalled. The entry into force took place on 21 August and the publication by DIÁRIO on 17 September of the 64-page reprint, recalled the director of this morning.
At that time, said Ricardo Miguel Oliveira, “in an editorial we made it clear that ‘the challenge that is imposed, after the victory of Autonomy, is to make the most of the advances achieved …. More than enough reasons to reaffirm the basis, the essence that is the result of the intense negotiation led by the committee chairman and author of the document that was the discussion, João Cunha e Silva, and the consensus-generating dialogue in which some of those present participated with determination ”highlighted Ricardo Miguel Oliveira, justifying that it is“ also why the day after tomorrow, the 1st of July, we will launch with our print and digital edition the reissue of the ‘Constitution of Madeira’ ”.
Fact that he defines as “a happy coincidence because it is on the day of the Region that we will also launch a more modern digital platform, an easier to use application and a new dynamic in the production of content and services”.
Ricardo Miguel Oliveira also recalled that “Interestingly in 1999, the year of the Statute, it was also a year of glory for DIÁRIO, 123 year of our existence and in which our adventure on the Internet began; where we created a newspaper for the Portuguese community residing in Venezuela; in which we hand over to the Regional Archives our century-old collection, now fully microfilmed, digitized and available; in which we created a pension fund for EDN workers, in which we launched a magazine about Madeira in the national market for more than one million readers, in which we met and spoke with Nelson Mandela, with Fidel Castro and with Hugo Chávez; when we brought Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa to the 10th edition of the 100 largest companies and when we were in solidarity with Timor ”.
Recalling other moments of that year, such as the euro entering “virtually in the life of the Portuguese” or even “when for the first time a Madeiran was Miss Portugal, when Macau became Chinese territory, when some Madeirans lost their lives in the tragedy de Vargas, and in which the democratic maturity of Madeira has asserted itself ”, Ricardo Miguel Oliveira points out that 21 years later it is up to the elected legislators of the current legislature to follow paths that strengthen a collective design and respond to the expectations generated. “As part of the autonomic process, which wants to be dynamic and evolutionary, the DIARY faithful to its DNA, regardless of who leads it, will certainly be available to cooperate with anyone who wants to build common projects in respect for diversity, because our far greater is serving the interests of Madeirans, sharing news in various media and formats, so that whoever reads, sees or hears them can make conscious choices at every moment ”, concluded the DIÁRIO director.
