DHF Cases in Madiun Rise High, Regency Government Has Not Determined KLB Status

Solopos.com, MADIUN — Cases of dengue hemorrhagic fever (DHF) in Indonesia Madiun Regency in January 2022 this increased drastically. The Madiun District Health Office noted that during January there were 25 cases of dengue that were handled.

Even though the condition has drastically improved, the local Health Service is not willing to raise the status to an Extraordinary Event (KLB).

The head of the Madiun District Health Office, Soelistyo Widyantono, said the number of dengue cases in January had increased. He estimates that the peak of dengue cases in Madiun will occur in January. His side noted that during the last ten days there were 25 cases of DHF that were handled.

“The month of January is increasing. The peak of dengue fever this month. After that it will go down. The graphics are indeed like that,” he said, Monday (10/1/2022).

Even though the cases are increasing, Soelis said that the condition cannot be considered as an extraordinary event or an outbreak. According to him, his status rose to KLB when the number of cases was more than half of dengue cases in the previous year.

“What is used to determine the status of KLB is the annual period, not monthly. That’s the rule,” he said.

On the previous occasion, the Head of Disease Prevention and Control of the Madiun District Health Office, Anies Djaka Employee, said that the total dengue cases during 2021 as many as 117 with one person died. This figure rose sharply when compared to 2020 which only 86 cases with two patients died.

“Because of the large number of cases, we appeal to the public to mobilize the eradication of mosquito nests” [PSN] in their respective homes,” he said, Tuesday (4/1/2022).

Anies said the rainy season has the potential to increase dengue cases. During the rainy season, the mosquito population increases. For this reason, he suggested that people do PSN to stop the breeding of mosquitoes.
