DHB Cup 1st round: Surprise win for Potsdam, HC Elbflorenz make cup history | News

1. VfL Potsdam – TuSEM Essen 32:27 (16:10)

In the first cup game of the day, the promoted second division team 1. VfL Potsdam faced the established second division team TuSEM Essen.
After a nervous initial phase in the MBS Arena, it was the hosts who scored the first goal of the game after just under five minutes. Essen’s equalizer followed promptly and the connection went 1:2 for the guests as well. However, this should have been the only guide for TuSEM.
At half-time, the promoted team was already leading by 6 goals and in the 37th minute they extended by three more goals. Potsdam dominated the first competitive game of the second division season 22/23 at home and won 32:27 (16:10).
Adler’s best pitcher was Emil Hansson with eight goals.



MTV Braunschweig vs. Dessau-Rosslauer AGM 34:36 (16:19)

Victory and entry into the second round of the cup for the DRHV! After a truly sovereign performance by the second division team, the ambitious third division team MTV Braunschweig made the finals exciting again, but without success. The DRHV won 34:36 and can look forward to the pairings draw for the second round of the cup.

Despite the loss, one person from the MTV team in particular attracted attention: Braunschweig left winger Bela Pieres was the most successful pitcher of the game with eleven goals and a 100% shooting percentage.



HC Elbflorenz 2006 vs TSV Bayer Dormagen 31:21 (16:10)

Dresden writes cup history! HC Elbflorenz never made it to the second round of the DHB Cup. But tonight the time had come, they defeated their guests from the Rhine by a margin of ten goals.
The favorites had already been set for the hosts in the run-up to the match. They did it justice. After a low-scoring start to the game, HC Elbflorenz improved more and more in their fast and well-trained game and was able to consistently use Dormagen’s technical mistakes to their advantage.

After the 6-goal lead at halftime (16:10), the 11-goal lead followed midway through the second half. From Dormagen’s point of view, the only thing left to do was damage control. Simonsen in particular avoided an even bigger defeat with a total of 15 saves.

The match winners for HC Elbflorenz, however, were Lukas Wucherpfennig (seven goals), Ivar Starvast (seven goals) and Marino Mallwitz with a retention rate of 52% and three saved shots worth 7m.



The last match of the cup first round between HC Empor Rostock and HSG Nordhorn-Lingen will be played next Monday, thus determining the last participant in the second round. Wednesday 31 August Then, after the Pixum Super Cup, the pairings for the second round will be drawn, which will be joined by the handball teams of the 1st Bundesliga. The draw will be made by European javelin throwing champion Julian Weber.
