DFI introduced the first motherboards with LGA 1200 for Comet Lake-S

DFI has added two 10th generation Intel Core desktop processors, also codenamed Comet Lake-S, to their 2020 product catalog. In fact, these are the first officially introduced motherboards for the new generation of Intel processors.

The manufacturer announced the CMS310-W480 and CMS310-Q470 boards, built on the new Intel W480 and Q470 system logic chips. Both boards are designed for work systems: the first is focused on the creation of workstations, and the other on desktops. Note also that the CMS310-W480 should also support Comet Lake Xeon processors.

Unfortunately, the board images were not published, but the detailed characteristics of the new products are known. Both motherboards are made in the Micro-ATX form factor and equipped with the LGA 1200 processor socket, so now we can confidently say that Intel Comet Lake-S processors will be released in this version. Both boards have four slots for DDR4 memory modules with a total capacity of up to 128 GB. In addition, the W480 chipset will support memory with ECC. According to previous rumors, Comet Lake-S will be able to support DDR4-2933 memory modules without overclocking.

CMS310-W480 and CMS310-Q470 each have two PCIe x16 slots and two PCIe x4 slots. Although DFI does not specify the version of the PCIe interface, we already know that PCIe 3.0 will be used here, since Intel failed to provide support for PCIe 4.0 in Comet Lake-S chips. There are four SATA III ports and an M.2 slot for connecting storage devices, as well as an additional M.2 slot for a wireless module. The sound subsystem is built on the Realtek ALC888 codec.

DFI indicates that the CMS310-W480 and CMS310-Q470 motherboards will be available sometime soon. According to the latest data, the announcement of the Comet Lake-S processors will take place in March, and then, accordingly, platforms for them will be released.
