In the first round of the DFB Cup, the Stuttgarter Kickers meet SpVgg Greuther Fürth, who have been relegated to the Bundesliga. That was the result of the draw on Sunday evening in the ARD sports show. Former VfB player and world champion Kevin Grosskreutz drew the lot. The Blues had qualified for the competition thanks to a 5-4 win on penalties in the WFV Cup final against SSV Ulm 1846 football.
Most recently, the Degerloch team took part in the first round of the cup in 2015. Back then they lost 4-1 to VfL Wolfsburg at the Gazi Stadium in Waldau, for whom Max Kruse and Kevin De Bruyne scored. Lhadji Badiane, who is now on the hunt for goals for FC Villingen, scored the consolation goal for the then third division club.
Loss to Borussia Dortmund
In 2014, the Blues also played in the DFB Cup. In the Mercedes-Benz Arena, the Kickers lost to Borussia Dortmund, also 4-1. Jürgen Klopp was coaching BVB at the time.
The first round games will take place from July 29th to August 1st. It is not yet clear on which day the Kickers will play.
