Citizens can comment on the management plan for the Natura 2000 area “Belchen”.
(BZ). The Natura-2000 area “Belchen” is characterized by its diverse habitats: extensive all-meadow pastures with a mosaic of grass grass, mountain meadows and dry heaths. Mountain streams where the bullhead is at home. Large, species-rich beech forests where the Bechstein’s bat occurs. In order to secure these natural treasures for the future, the Regional Council Freiburg (RP) is currently developing a management plan. The FP announced that the draft of the plan has been publicly available since Monday.
All citizens have the opportunity to submit their comments until Sunday, April 25th. The complete documents can be found on the website of the Freiburg Regional Council at http://www.rp-freiburg.de (“News” section) available.
The Natura 2000 area “Belchen” is a fauna-flora-habitat (FFH) area with a total area of 2,907 hectares. It extends over Wieden, Schönenberg, Aitern, Münstertal, Kleines Wiesental, Utzenfeld, Böllen, Todtnau, Fröhnd and Schönau in the districts of Lörrach and Breisgau-Hochschwarzwald. The draft management plan presents the results of the mapping of the protected FFH habitat types and species. It contains goals and recommendations for their conservation and development. For example, the pastures should be preserved. In the forests, the focus is on promoting local forest communities.
In Baden-Württemberg there are 212 FFH areas which, together with the bird protection areas, are part of the European Natura 2000 network. For each Natura 2000 area, the regional councils work out a management plan in coordination with land users, associations and authorities.
