Developers release version 1.0 of open world game Factorio after 8.5 years – Gaming – News

Version 1.0 of Factorio has been released. This open world game has been in development since 2012, but is still ahead of schedule: the makers previously announced that the 1.0 release would take place on September 25.

The makers have for the 1.0 release published a trailer in which they briefly explain how the game evolved from a relatively simple idea to a complex game. That idea dates back to 2012 and in 2013 there was an IndieGoGo campaign to fund the work. The elaboration has been available via Early Access since 2016.

In Factorio, the player has crashed into a planet with his or her spaceship. A factory must be built to defend against the hostile planet inhabitants. The ultimate goal is to set up a large-scale industry including robots and transport lines to build a rocket and leave the planet with it.

The makers state that the 8.5 years development time has led to 18,855 bug reports and that 5603 mods have now been made. They acknowledge that not all bugs have been fixed, there are said to be 150 already reported bugs left. There are also 80 internally determined adjustments to be made. Version 1.1 of the game will therefore mainly focus on fixing those problems and will not contain any new content.

The game is available for Windows, macOS and Linux and costs 25.35 euros. A free demo offers the opportunity to try out the basic gameplay.
