It’s a well known fact that Thomas Muller and his wife Lisa are avid horse breeders and the couple’s fondness of the hobby is well documented on Muller’s social media profiles. He’s always up to something away from the pitch for Bayern Munich and he never ceases to make a lot of us laugh with his one of a kind charisma. He’s never shied away from showing the world his love of horses, but in a recent interview with Münchner Merkur, he said that he doesn’t plan on getting into riding, despite his wife already doing so (the).
He said that riding would be “too risky, because I didn’t want to run the risk of falling down and injuring myself. As a professional footballer, I can’t afford that.” His wife Lisa is a professional rider and he joked that it was her that initially “infected” him with the horse virus. He did, however, say that breeding horses is a thoroughly enjoyable hobby away from the football pitch despite not wanting to take the next step and get into riding. “For me it’s a great balance to football. It’s my wife’s fault – she infected me with the horse virus. Watching horses grow up is very touching,” Muller explained.

Muller also drew some comparisons between breeding a young horse and the way in which a young footballer develops and builds upon their craft and skill set. “Accompanying a young horse on the way up is comparable to the path of a young footballer to the top. You have to observe and learn to assess both: Enough I like that, especially in dressage. There is this attraction to chasing after a certain perfection,” he described.
He also admitted how much of a fan he is when it comes to watching his wife Lisa compete at Equestrian tournaments. He said it’s “very exciting to take part in tournaments, especially when your own horses are at the start – that’s a nice feeling. And always the question: Can Lisa call up what she has already shown at home in the test?”
