Dozens of nurses and doctors in the intensive care unit of the University Regional Hospital in Malaga, Spain, have tested positive for COVID-19. A total of 68 people tested positive after attending a Christmas party.
The case was immediately investigated by the local health authorities. After being investigated, the 68 people turned out to have attended the Christmas party which was held on December 1, 2021, and was attended by 173 people.
Health authorities revealed that before attending the party, dozens of people had undergone an antigen test and received a booster vaccine. They also show mild symptoms of COVID-19.
Authorities suspect the source of the infection could have been a large meal provided for hospital staff.
To prevent something similar from happening again, Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez warned to stay vigilant against the Corona virus over Christmas.
“We can’t lower our vigilance,” he told reporters quoted from Reuters, Tuesday (7/12/2021).
Health authorities in Andalusia have also warned staff in hospitals, public and other private, not to attend this kind of Christmas party. It also prevents the emergence of new cases, including those related to the Omicron variant.
