DER Touristik will cut some 140 jobs out of nearly 810

Heavily affected by the effects of the novel coronavirus pandemic, DER Touristik Switzerland is restructuring. The Swiss subsidiary of the German tour operator, which had taken over Kuoni’s activities, will cut nearly 140 jobs out of its 810 full-time positions.

In its press release published on Tuesday, the group specifies that DER Touristik will be resized ‘by renouncing to fill certain positions and thanks to regular and early retirement, reductions in occupancy rates and redundancies’.

DER Touristik will also reflect on its network of Kuoni agencies in order to overcome the current crisis: groupings of agencies, the opening of other ‘shop in shop’ subsidiaries as well as the abandonment of certain sites are planned.

The Managing Director of DER Touristik Switzerland, Dieter Zümpel, explains: ‘… We are aware that these layoffs will be painful for the employees concerned. We are going to establish a social plan and a range of services for professional reorientation to mitigate the consequences of these decisions’.
