Deputy proposes to generate conditions for the prevention of cancer in men and women

Juan Jose Romero

The deputy president of the Gender Equality Commission in the Local Congress, Gabriela Bernal Resendiz, proposed an initiative so that bureaucrats have one day a year of paid leave to undergo their examination to detect cancer.

The legislator recalled that cancer is currently one of the main causes of death in Mexico and in the world. According to INEGI figures, between January and August 2020, 683 thousand 823 deaths were registered, of which 9 percent are due to malignant tumors.

In the case of men, I point out that prostate cancer is the fifth leading cause of death worldwide; while in the case of women, breast cancer, together with cervical cancer, are the main causes of death.

Bernal Resendiz explained that the treatment of breast cancer in women, and prostate cancer in men, can be highly effective, with a 90 percent or higher chance of survival, in particular

When the disease is detected early, it is important to carry out periodic studies for this purpose.

Therefore, he proposed that workers, men and women should have a day off to carry out the corresponding studies, either in private clinics, in free days or in public hospitals to detect this condition in time and be treated appropriately to save their lives. .

“For this reason, this initiative with a draft decree seeks to oblige the State to incorporate the granting of a permit for one day a year with full pay so that women can go for early detection studies for cancer of breast and / or cervical, as well as men can do the corresponding with prostate and testicular cancer “, insisted the legislator.

For this purpose, the PRI proposes the addition of an eleventh fraction to article 42 of the Labor Law of Public Servants of the State of Guerrero Number 248 and an eleventh fraction to article 33 of Law Number 51 of the Statute of Workers in Service of the State, of the Municipalities and of the Coordinated and Decentralized Public Organizations of the State of Guerrero.

The proposal was sent to the Economic Development and Labor commissions for their analysis and subsequent opinion.
