With all the great news for the 2018 iPad Pro, 2018 MacBook Air, and 2018 Mac mini announced today, you’d be forgiven for overlooking another impressive announcement from Apple: a new and improved Apple Pencil.
Along with a cosmetic redesign that has removed the removable cap and now includes a flat edge and matte finish, the second-generation Apple Pencil features a number of enhancements that set it apart from its predecessor, such as wireless charging and gesture controls.
And that flat edge we talked about earlier? Not only does it prevent the new Pencil from rolling across the table, but it also allows it to be magnetically attached to the side of the new iPad Pro, where it can automatically pair or take advantage of the aforementioned wireless charging functionality, a far superior alternative to the old method, which it required the original Pencil to be plugged into the iPad’s Lightning port.
As for the gesture controls, users can switch tools simply by tapping the side of the new Apple Pencil. That said, users will be able to customize their own gestures, which should come in handy when using non-Apple drawing apps.
The new Apple Pencil is now available in the Apple online store with a shipping date of November 6, and is priced at € 135.00. Please note that the new Apple Pencil and its features are only compatible with the newly announced 2018 iPad Pro model.
