Deputy Minister of Health announces number of electronic prescriptions issued in Ukraine after third stage implementation

On April 3, Deputy Minister of Health of Ukraine for Digital Development Maria Karchevich is on air “Radio Liberty” named the number of electronic prescriptions issued in Ukraine two days after the start on April 1 of the third stage of their implementation.

“Over the past two days, we have already filled over 4,000 prescriptions for all prescription drugs. But I also remind you that the ePrescription program has been around for a long time, because we have the Affordable Medicines program, which allows you to reimburse certain drugs” , – she said.

Karchevich explained that among the directives of the European Union, which Ukraine must comply with in order to join the EU, there is, among other things, the issue of controlling the circulation of prescription drugs.

The Deputy Minister noted that they intend to expand the list of medicines, the cost of which will be reimbursed by the state.

“For example, since the beginning of the year, immunosuppression drugs that are necessary for transplantation have been added to the program. Thus, this list will be expanded in order to reimburse certain most common drugs that Ukrainians need most,” Karchevich stressed.

Context:

On August 1, 2022, the Ministry of Health began to introduce an electronic prescription for antibiotics. This opportunity is available in institutions that are connected to the electronic health system (EPOS).

On November 1, Ukraine introduced an electronic prescription for medicines containing narcotic drugs and psychotropic substances. This prescription is valid for 10 days.

On April 1, 2023, the third stage of the introduction of electronic prescriptions for medicines was launched. At the same time, the Ministry of Health explained that the list of prescription drugs in Ukraine is not expanding.

In the Ministry of Health gave detailed explanations about the introduction of the third stage of the program. The list and conditions of prescription drugs do not change, the same drugs will be dispensed with an electronic prescription as before with a paper one, the ministry said.
