The teasing of the head of state was conveyed briefly and without giving context to the conditions of the war which was meant.

Although Jokowi finally spoke about conflicts that occurred in other parts of the world, many people in the country responded with negative expressions.

For example, after Jokowi’s tweet, his Twitter account was even flooded with criticism regarding domestic problems that have not been resolved. Regarding scarcity cooking oil which was later followed by skyrocketing prices for other food commodities, namely soybeans and beef in the market.

As is known, a number of policies to control domestic cooking oil prices have been rolled out by the Jokowi government during January-February this year, but the results have not looked optimal.

In various regions, cooking oil according to the government’s highest retail price (HET) is still scarce, both in modern and traditional markets. In minimarkets, the shelves that usually contain cooking oil are almost always empty.

For the same amount of money, in traditional market traders and in stalls in residential areas, cheap cooking oil is also very difficult to find. Even if it is available, the price is still in the range of Rp. 20,000 per liter.

Not infrequently, in various market operations carried out by a combination of various government agencies, it is common to see residents fighting with each other or waiting in long lines for hours to get their share of two liters of cooking oil.

In fact, the policy of the obligation to meet the needs of the domestic market (domestic market obligation/DMO) crude palm oil (CPO) and refined CPO or olein have long been rolled out.

Over a period of five months, domestic cooking oil prices spiked out of control. The Business Competition Supervisory Commission (KPPU) is also still investigating allegations that the cartel conspires with the big producers of cooking oil in fixing prices.
