Department of Security Steering Committee Executive Order

野與 protests against raising the issue of Yang Kyung-sook… Lunar New Year

On the 17th, the subcommittee for examining the budget and the liquidation fund of the steering committee of the National Assembly (preliminary subcommittee) dissolved after a battle between the government and opposition parties over an amendment to the executive decree that would have given the head of the presidential security service the “right to command and supervise” the military and police involved in security work.

In addition, Democratic Party lawmaker Yang Gyeong-sook signaled a problem with the amendment to the execution order through a procedural remark when reviewing the budget bill for the Presidential Security Service, and People’s Power lawmakers they protested harshly, saying it was a remark off the agenda.

As the war of words continued between the ruling and opposition parties on the 18th, around midnight, the so-called chairman, Jin Seong-joon, deputy group leader of the Democratic Party, declared the meeting suspended.

Since then, people’s power lawmakers have not returned to the conference room, and only Democratic Party lawmakers hold meetings alone until dawn on the 18th after changing the order.

People power is in the position that it will not participate in agendas that have not been agreed in advance, and it is expected that it will be difficult for ruling and opposition parties to resume joint review overnight.

Apart from the current crippled operation, the budget review under the jurisdiction of the Steering Committee is expected to continue.

A steering committee official said, “The presidential office’s special activity expenses and the management budget for Yongsan’s relocation, initially under discussion, have already been suspended.”

The Democratic Party insists on cuts of 2.96 billion won for facility management and improvement projects and 2 billion won for the establishment of the National Information Security Management Center from the budget for managing the transfer of the presidential office and the people power insists on turning over the original bill.

Even with the presidential office’s special activity expenditures, People’s Power insisted on passing the government’s original bill set at 8.251 billion won, while the Democratic Party insisted on a reduction of about 5 billion won. and it was reported that they could not narrow down the difference of opinion.

Even if the Democratic Party decides on a plan to reduce the Preliminary Subcommittee by itself, Ho-young Joo, the head of People Power, the head of the steering committee, refuses to introduce and vote on it in the plenary, and the original bill of the government can be handed over to the Special Committee on the Budget and Accounts of the National Assembly. There is also a perspective.
