Denmark bans Jansen vaccine NOW

The situation in the country is not difficult, which makes it possible to rely on existing preparations

Authorities in Denmark said today they would ban Johnson & Johnson’s Jansen vaccine. The reason is fears of blood clots in patients. Two weeks ago, the European Medicines Agency (EMA) warned of “rare but severe blood clots” in the drug. The vaccine was also suspended in the United States in April. However, both the EMA and the World Health Organization recommended it because the benefits outweigh the risks. Denmark is generally firm – in April it was the first country in Europe to completely stop the Astra Zeneca vaccine.

Now the Danish health authorities have said that the epidemiological situation in the country is favorable, which allows to rely only on “Pfizer” and “Modern”. If there are not many patients, the benefits of the new vaccine “do not outweigh the risk of causing a possible adverse effect”. However, it is reported that the decision will slow down the pace of immunization in the country. Currently, 11.5% of the population is fully vaccinated and 23.4% have received the first dose. Authorities also left a loophole to return the vaccine. “New knowledge may emerge or the situation in Denmark may change – for example in terms of infectious pressure, disease severity, epidemic control or the availability of other vaccines,” said the local health authority.

On April 26, Bulgaria announced that Jansen would be used without restrictions.
