Furthermore, according to the Ministry of Health’s Ayo Sehat, Dengue hemorrhagic fever (DHF) is a disease transmitted by the bite of a mosquito called Aedes aegypti.

The cause of dengue fever is none other than the transmission of the dengue virus to humans via the Aedes aegypti mosquito. Generally, this mosquito is small in size with a jet black body, two white vertical stripes on its back and horizontal white stripes on its legs.

These mosquitoes are active mainly from morning to evening, although sometimes they also bite at night. They are more often found in dark, cool homes than hot outdoors.

Symptoms of dengue fever

Next, the main symptoms of dengue fever include sudden high fever, reaching a temperature of up to 39 degrees Celsius. This fever lasts continuously for 2-7 days, then goes down quickly.

Other symptoms that usually occur are headache, chills, weakness, pain behind the eyes, muscles and bones, reddish skin rash, difficulty swallowing food and drink, nausea, vomiting, bleeding gums, nosebleeds, red spots appearing on the skin, vomiting blood, and passing black stools.

In the critical phase of this disease, body temperature decreases and the body feels cold, although sufferers may feel as if they have recovered. However, in this phase you need to be careful because dengue shock syndrome can occur which can be life-threatening.

Meanwhile, treatment if you contract dengue fever includes consuming lots of fluids to prevent dehydration, either through oral fluids or through intravenous fluids if necessary.

Patients should also rest completely and apply compresses to the body to help overcome fever. Symptomatic drugs such as fever reducers (eg paracetamol) and anti-nausea drugs can be given to relieve symptoms.
