Dengue Fever Outbreak in Lebak Regency: Regional Secretary Urges Public to Increase Awareness and Take Action

LEBAK, RADARBANTEN.CO.ID – Cases of dengue fever (Deungeu Dengue Fever) throughout 2023 in Lebak Regency, which are considered high, have received serious attention from the Lebak Regional Secretary, Budi Santoso.

From January to December this year, dengue fever reached 602 cases and four people died as a result of being bitten by the Aedes aegypti mosquito.

The former Asda II of the Lebak Regency Government appealed to residents to be aware of dengue fever. This is because the dengue fever case in Lebak Regency is considered worrying.

“Of course, the public must increase their awareness of dengue fever by reinvigorating the 3M plus movement. “Moreover, entering the rainy season now has the potential for dengue fever to emerge,” said the former Head of BKAD Lebak, Wednesday 20 December 2023.

According to him, the clean Friday (Jumsih) movement that he has been promoting will be in vain if it is not supported by all elements of society. Because of this, the number one person in Lebak asked the public to be aware of maintaining the cleanliness of the environment together, by working together to maintain cleanliness.

He said, the fogging that continues to be carried out by the Health Service is not a solution to eradicating dengue fever. Fogging is only to break the chain.

“I think the best solution is to live a healthy and clean lifestyle. “Currently, the Lebak Regency Government continues to aggressively promote the clean living movement,” he added.

He added that he had instructed the Health Office as well as all sub-district heads, village heads, village heads, heads of community health centers and health workers in villages to provide outreach to the community, to always maintain environmental cleanliness and increase the movement to eradicate mosquito nests (PSN).

“PSN needs to be increased, especially during the rainy and transition seasons, because increased rainfall can increase the breeding places for mosquitoes that transmit dengue fever,” he said.

Head of the Lebak Regency Health Office, Triatno Supiono, said that the Aedes aegypti mosquito population breeds in pools of clean water that do not directly touch the ground.

“The public must maintain a clean environment to avoid the spread of the dengue virus. “Because disease transmission is caused by poor environmental hygiene in society,” he said.

Because of this, he appealed to the public to carry out the PSN movement by draining, burying and covering and storing water for used goods. Apart from residents doing 3M plus, they are also asked to provide abatement for water reservoirs such as bathtubs.

“If residents maintain good environmental cleanliness, it is certain that dengue fever will not easily spread,” he said.

He also admitted that he had alerted all health center officers, hospitals and village midwives to respond quickly, in anticipation of various diseases that would arise during the rainy season at the end of this year.

“We have instructed 40 community health centers spread across 28 sub-districts in Lebak Regency to always be on guard for an outbreak of disease during the rainy season at the end of this year. “Like diarrhea and dengue fever,” he said.
