Pekanbaru, berazam.com – Most of the patients with dengue haemorrhagic fever (DHF) in Pekanbaru city are still classified as adolescents, i.e. in the age range of 10 to 14 years. Dengue fever in the city of Pekanbaru reached 755 cases in the middle of this month.
The adolescent patients registered by the Pekanbaru City Health Bureau reached 192 people. Pekanbaru City Health Service Chief Zaini Rizaldy reminded that DHF patients should receive immediate medical attention.
He appealed to these patients not to be late for medical treatment. Those who are late in receiving medical care can be fatal and even cause death.
This year alone, two DHF patients have died due to delays in obtaining medical care.
“We urge you to be aware of the spread of dengue at this time,” he said on Monday (11/21).
Zaini explained that DHF is a fever followed by bleeding under the skin, lining of the nose and stomach. Transmission is via a virus from the Aedes Aegypti mosquito.
There are a number of early symptoms of DHF that can be anticipated, namely high fever with red patches on the skin. Then joint or muscle pain up to abdominal pain accompanied by diarrhea and vomiting.
He explained that there is one way to prevent DHF early, and that is to drink plenty of water. Patients can take antipyretic drugs and compress the head with cold water.
“If the condition really doesn’t change, you can contact your doctor right away, to get medical attention,” she explained.
Zaini added that people can control the development of mosquitoes by implementing 3M plus. They can also interrupt the mosquito’s chain of transmission.
You can do this by shutting down water tanks, burying used items, draining water tanks, and spraying culling powder into water tanks. They can take this preventive measure in their environment.
Efforts to prevent the spread of dengue fever are not the responsibility of the health department alone. Communities can also take care of their environment by ensuring clean housing conditions.
His party has fulfilled its duties with outreach and community education efforts. They are also ready to follow up by providing healthcare services to DHF patients.
