Demon’s Souls for PS5 shows how to handle a remaster

The year was 2009 when a new game genre was created. Demon’s Souls gave rise to so-called souls, or games, which, although at first glance appear to be just too heavy, the opposite is true.

A well-done soulska is a fair game, which punishes for mistakes, but rewards patience and diligence. Even then, Japanese developers from FromSoftware showed that they could make ingeniously designed games, and they continued to confirm this in the development of the trilogy Dark Souls or the excellent Bloodborne, or Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice.

Demon´s Souls became a cult hit, and those who didn’t play it had a hard time with hardcore gamers. The remake was called for a long time and with the arrival of a new generation of Sony game consoles, the players listened to them and showed the remake of Demon´s Souls for the first time when the new console was announced. Combined with the magicians from Bluepoint Games, they fulfilled one big dream for the fans.

For the uninitiated, Demon´s Souls could be described as an action game with RPG elements. The player takes on characters with certain attributes and sets out into the mysterious world of Boletaria. At the beginning, he finds out that he is cycled in a so-called Nexus, to which he returns every time he dies. The goal is clear. Gain the souls of everyone in Boletaria, get the best equipment and kill traditionally epic bosses accompanied by excellent musical accompaniment, which the developers had rearranged and recorded with a new orchestra.

Demon´s Souls thus have only one mistake, which will be a motto, especially for fans of the original game. The developers did not touch on a piece of code that affected opponents and their attacks, as well as players. There are ailments that accompanied the original version, and so in some places not only the obsolescence of mechanics peeks out, but also weaker artificial intelligence, respectively. bad search for enemy paths towards the player, or attacks by some, which could not be properly avoided even in the original version.

It would come in handy here, for example, for developers to give players the option of whether they want to play an unmodified version, or a “more modern” version with some elements that are already traditional in this genre. In the final, despite the visual, which definitely corresponds to the new generation of games, more than 10 years old title with all the good and bad is hidden under that coat.

As the headline has already revealed, Demon´s Souls is technically absolutely nothing to blame. The developers at Bluepoint Games have done a great deal of work here. Despite the preservation of the original code, which controls artificial intelligence, the spread of enemies and the entire combat system, in terms of graphics and sound, the game is completely redesigned.

The game contains an incredible amount of details, from the photorealistic environment to individual objects, armor and opponents. Prim plays an absolutely perfect lighting here, which gives the game a really dense atmosphere. In addition, players can choose the settings in which they want to play the game. You can turn on the native 4K resolution at 30 frames per second, or regret the native resolution, but enjoy the game in a smooth 60 frames per second.

In terms of graphics, however, the biggest improvement was in the recording times. Thanks to the fast disc of the new Playstation, recording both the game itself and traveling between parts of the Bolateria is a matter of seconds.

Remake Demon´s Souls is definitely worth it. Under the shell of difficulty is a title that has defined a new genre of games, but in the best possible form. Although the game contains the negatives of the original version and in some ways shows that it is more than a decade old at its core, it also proves how revolutionary the work created by FromSoftware at the time was.

Demon´s Souls was released exclusively for Playstation 5.
