Democratic Party Nomination Conflict Intensifies: Non-Lee Jae-myeong Members Deemed Unqualified

There are signs that the Democratic Party nomination conflict is intensifying. Choi Seong, who challenged Chin-myeong, was ultimately deemed ‘unqualified’ by Choi Seong. Chin-myeong, who defended sexual crimes, was ruled ‘eligible’. The list of candidates running for Chin-myeong in the Honam line is back… Conflict over nomination ignites even among incumbent lawmakers

Representative Lee Jae-myung, Christmas service Lee Jae-myung (left), leader of the Democratic Party of Korea, is shaking hands with citizens while attending the Christmas service held at North Incheon Central Church in Gyeyang-gu, Incheon, his district, on the 25th. Within the party, members of the Non-Lee Jae-myeong faction, who were judged to be ‘unqualified as preliminary candidates’ by the Public Official Election Candidate Verification Committee, protested, and in relation to this, former Prime Minister Chung Sye-gyun and Kim Boo-gyeom also pointed out the issue of fairness, raising questions about whether the conflict in nomination is intensifying. An evaluation was also made. Instagram capture of Lee Jae-myeong, leader of the Democratic Party of Korea

The nomination conflict between factions of the Democratic Party of Korea over candidates for next year’s general election appears to be intensifying. Following the party’s public office election candidate verification committee’s recent ruling that non-Syongmyeon (non-Lee Jae-myeong) members were ‘unqualified as preliminary candidates’, the non-Sympathy group protested, calling it a “nomination massacre”, and former Prime Minister Chung Sye-kyun and former Prime Minister Kim Boo-gyeom Others also stepped up and pointed out equity issues. An active member of the Gwangju region publicly protested against the publication of a ‘list of recommended candidates for pro-Myeong (pro-Lee Jae-myung) candidates from the Honam region.’ On the other hand, the pro-Myung faction’s position is that it cannot accept the claim of the non-Myung faction, saying, “There are far more cases where pro-Myung faction candidates have been judged ineligible.”

There is an atmosphere of concern within the party, saying, “If this is the case from the preliminary candidate verification stage, it is impossible to even estimate the extent to which the conflict within the party will spread when the cutoff (exclusion of nominations) for active members is made.”

● 丁-Kim “At least we should have a primary election.”

According to the Democratic Party on the 25th, the Central Party’s preliminary candidate qualification review objection processing committee held its first meeting on the 22nd and notified former Siheung Mayor Kim Yun-sik and former Goyang Mayor Choi Seong of ‘dismissal’ who had filed objections to the disqualification decision. Former Mayor Kim ran for the constituency of the party’s Secretary General Jo Jung-sik (Siheung-eul, Gyeonggi-do), a pro-Myung faction, and former Mayor Choi ran for the constituency of Rep. Han Jun-ho (Goyang-eul, Gyeonggi-do), a pro-Myung faction. Not only the ineligible parties but also the elders protested against this. It is known that former Prime Minister Chung and former Prime Minister Kim shared concerns about nomination noise at a breakfast meeting on the 24th. An official from former Prime Minister Chung’s side said, “Both of those who received notification of dismissal coincidentally are preparing to run for key pro-Myung faction member constituencies,” and added, “As controversy continues over the reasons for their ineligibility, the two prime ministers agreed that at least a primary should be allowed to be held.” “He said. A representative of former Prime Minister Kim also said in a phone call, “If the nomination controversy continues, there will inevitably be problems with the unity and integration of the party.”

A senior lawmaker with a pale political affiliation said, “Former party leader Lee Nak-yeon proposed the creation of a new party and the two prime ministers proposed a solution within the party as a solution to the conflict within the party. “We can aim with one voice,” he said. Representative Lee must come forward and solve the problem himself. Former leader Lee is also reported to have told some senior members of the party last month, “You cannot sing cheers over the corpses of your comrades.”

On the other hand, the pro-Myung faction leaders are countering that they cannot overturn the objection handling committee’s dismissal. A key party official dismissed the decision, saying, “Even if Representative Lee steps forward, the party constitution and rules cannot overturn the decision to disqualify the two people.” A pro-Myung faction leader also said, “Among the candidates who were judged ineligible, there are far more pro-Myung faction candidates than non-Myung faction candidates,” adding, “This is at the level of normal nomination noise.” The party’s special adviser for political affairs, Chung Eui-chan, who was previously involved in controversy over his involvement in the civilian ‘Lee Jong-kwon torture death incident’, and former full-time spokesperson Lee Kyung, who was sentenced to a fine in the first trial on charges of retaliatory driving, were also judged ineligible. However, the controversy over fairness is expected to continue as it was belatedly revealed that Lee Geon-tae, a special assistant to the party leader who is preparing to run for office in Bucheon, Gyeonggi Province, was judged eligible despite controversy over his past defense of various sexual crime suspects, including prostitution brokers and perpetrators of forced molestation of teenagers.

● Nomination noise intensifies even among incumbent lawmakers

As the general election approaches, the conflict over nomination appears to be spreading to active members of the party. On the 25th, Rep. Lee Yong-bin, whose constituency is Gwangsan Gap in Gwangju, shared a poster titled ‘List of recommended candidates for the Democratic Party’s Honam name’ in the Democratic Party’s group chat room, criticizing it as “an embarrassing reality in the petty Democratic Party’s stronghold, Honam.” The poster includes Kang Won-wi, a close associate of Lee, who serves as a special assistant to the party leader, as well as pro-Myung faction lawmaker Kim Eui-gyeom and lawyer Park Gyun-taek, who was in charge of defending Lee’s ‘Daejang-dong suspicions’.

There is a feeling within the party that “the fact that pro-Myung faction proportional representatives, such as Kim Eui-gyeom and Yang Lee Won-young, are hunting for non-Myung faction incumbents will also become a detonator of conflict over nominations.”

Representative Park Yong-jin, a member of the non-representative group, said on KBS radio that day, “If the Democratic Party continues with the current atmosphere of ‘everyone who is close to Representative Lee will be nominated,’ they will be abandoned and criticized by the people.”
