demand justice after Jonathan’s murder

Guadalajara.— Colleagues, friends and relatives of Jonathan Alberto Santos, who was assassinated in Zapopan last Tuesday, paid tribute to him at the school where he studied, the Matute Remus Polytechnic, of the University of Guadalajara (UdeG). There, the young people demanded that the authorities clarify the crime.

They remembered the young man as a happy, brave and free person, who did not leave anyone behind: “But in the XXI century it seems that being firm and showing the world who you are puts your life at risk.

“They are killing us. Enough of homophobia and violence for all those who decide to flourish with freedom!” Said Anahí, his cousin.

Javier Armenta, president of the Federation of University Students (FEU), recalled that from 2014 to date 16 students of the UdeG have lost their lives in violent acts and another eight are missing.

“Surely there is a black number and there are more, we know about them because their relatives have approached the FEU in search of support,” said the student leader from Guadalajara.

Jonathan’s body was found Tuesday morning with a shot to the head, in the Balcones de la Cantera neighborhood.

The young student was an active defender of the rights of the LGBTTTIQ + community.

The day of protests to demand justice for the murder will be extended to this Friday. University students called to be part of a demonstration on the outskirts of Casa Jalisco, starting at 8:00 p.m.
