Francis-Henri Graffard almost won his bet by finishing second in the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Fillies Turf (Gr.1) with Malavath (Mehmas), his filly who certainly remained after a victory in the Critérium de Maisons-Laffitte (Gr.2 ), but which approached the distance for the first time and what is more with two turns, whereas it had only run on a straight line. Immediately brought down on the rope side by Ryan Moore, Malavath followed in last place, before tracing a splendid straight line and finally narrowly failing against Pizza Bianca (Fastnet Rock), who also came back from the last ranks. Pizza Bianca offers a first victory in a Breeders’ Cup to its trainer Christophe Clément. Although it was born in the USA, Pizza Bianca nonetheless has European origins. His dam White Hot (Galileo) is a sister to the stallion Pour Moi (Montjeu) and Gagnoa (Sadler’s Wells), who finished 2nd in the Prix de Diane (Gr.1)
