defrauded 115,000 euros from Cdiscount

On Monday 21 November, an Angevin was sentenced to two years in prison, one of which was stopped, for having defrauded the e-commerce company Cdiscount. Between 2015 and 2018 he had bought many computers and smartphones without ever paying for them in full.

It all started in 2015 when man discovered a failure in the payment system on the website of Cdiscount. Through fake accountsthe Angevins bought multimedia devices and chose to do so pay in four installments without charge. Once the first payment was made, he declared his credit card lost and filed an objection with his bank. Instead Cdiscount he could no longer collect the rest of the payment, the criminal had already done so resold the devices.

Once unmasked by the e-commerce brand, the Angevin still managed to continue his scam with another technique, now refusing payments in four free installments. Thirties then identifiers retrieved from the Darknet and used credit cards associated with multiple bank accounts.

Summoned for the first time by the gendarmes in 2018 after a report from Cdiscountthe Angevin has admitted the facts in 2020. On Monday 21 November he was sentenced by the criminal court of Angers to two years’ imprisonment, one year of which suspended, in addition to reimbursement of the 115,000 euros a Cdiscount.

Greater security from custody

It’s not the first time that Cdiscount deal with scams. Two people from Nîmes were also convicted in a similar case in April 2022. Since then, the brand said it has tightened the security of payment methods on its site.
