Deconfinement: Libraries Find Their Readers

From now on, in Dijon, you have to show white legs to enter a municipal library. Wearing a mask is compulsory, hydroalcoholic gel and gloves are available at the entrance. The places also strangely resemble a crime scene, with areas delimited by red and white ribbons. But more was needed to discourage overly happy readers from ending up there.

“What is pleasant to see is that since the reopening of the libraries on Wednesday afternoon, we have welcomed nearly 1,000 people to the sites and there have been almost 5,000 documents borrowed”, details the deputy mayor of Dijon in charge of culture Christine Martin Friday May 15.

Reopening of libraries in the Dijon conurbation … on the road!
In Quetigny, another choice was made: the service book. “We knew that our readers needed reading and that the layout of the library absolutely couldn’t allow easy circulation, explains Véronique Brézault, librarian. So we decided to set up this book service which allows people to have documents, books, audio books, DVDs, without crossing paths, without seeing each other. Which is a little bit frustrating, but it’s everyone’s lot right now. “

After booking online or by phone, readers come to get their documents ready. The return books are put aside. “They are quarantined until the virus leaves”, explains Catherine Chanut, library officer. Clearly, no question of borrowing them before ten days. What reassure the regulars even if the success of this system was immediate: 42 borrowers from the first day!
