The United States has seen 1,199 dead and 42,528 infected with covid-19 in the past 24 hours, according to a report by Johns Hopkins University.
The country has recorded 127,322 deaths and 2,629,372 cases since the beginning of the pandemic, according to the balance sheet made at 20:00, local time (01:00 today in Lisbon), by the Efe news agency.
The average number of new daily cases in the United States has been over 40,000 since last week, largely because of the spread of the new coronavirus in southern and western states such as Florida, Texas, California and Arizona.
New York remains the state most severely affected by the coronavirus in the United States, with 393,454 confirmed cases and 32,032 deaths, just less than in Brazil, the United Kingdom and Italy.
In New York City alone, 23,096 people died.
New York is followed by neighboring New Jersey, with 15,035 dead, Massachusetts, with 8,053, and Illinois, with 6,923.
Other states with a large number of deaths are Pennsylvania (6,649), Michigan (6,193), California (6,013), Connecticut (4,322).
In terms of infections, California is second only to New York, with 226,851 cases.
The United States is the country with the most deaths and the most confirmed cases of infection.
The University of Washington Institute of Health Metrics and Assessments, whose models for the evolution of the pandemic are often used by the White House, estimates that the country will reach October with about 180,000 deaths.
At the same time, Donald Trump said on Tuesday that he was increasingly “more and more angry” with China over the effects of the covid-19 pandemic in his country and in the world.
“As I see the pandemic worsening worldwide and causing tremendous damage to the United States, I am increasingly irritated by China,” wrote the Republican in his Twitter account. “The people can see it and I can feel it!” He added.
The already high tension between the two powers for a trade war has increased even more with the worldwide spread of the new coronavirus. On several occasions, Trump has accused Beijing of being responsible for the pandemic.
According to the White House, China initially hid the severity of the disease outbreak and thus helped spread the virus, which has already caused more than half a million deaths worldwide.
The covid-19 pandemic has already claimed nearly 507,000 deaths and infected more than 10.37 million people in 196 countries and territories, according to a report by the France-Presse news agency (AFP).
The disease is transmitted by a new coronavirus detected in late December in Wuhan, a city in central China.
After Europe succeeded China as the center of the pandemic in February, the American continent is now the one with the most confirmed cases and the most deaths.
