Deaths: – Flight nightmare: – Died in front of the children

Mother-of-two Helen Rhodes and her family had lived in Hong Kong for more than 15 years, but were to move back home to the UK to start a new life.

– She was excited and nervous about moving, but was looking forward to seeing her family. She had not seen her family or her elderly parents since the pandemic began. Unfortunately, she never got to see them again.

– Died in his sleep

That’s what family friend Jayne Jeje writes on the fundraising page GoFundMe. The case is also discussed by the British news channel Sky News.

Helen must have fallen asleep in the plane seat. A few hours after the plane had taken off, the family allegedly discovered that she was not breathing.

– Despite all attempts, they were unable to revive her. This happened right in front of her children, claims the family friend, who adds:

– Helen died in her sleep on the flight from Hong Kong to Great Britain.

It is not clear from the fundraising campaign what the cause of death should have been.

– Stayed

Jeje further claims that the mother of two was left lifeless for the next eight hours of the flight, before the plane landed in Frankfurt in Germany.

– Helen’s body remained in Frankfurt, while her husband Simon and their two young children had to travel on to the UK without her.

Now the family friend has set up a GoFundMe fundraiser for the family to bring the body home, and to cover expenses for the funeral.

– Although this was extremely traumatizing for the family, they had time to say what they wanted to her. They are completely broken, the loss is unfathomable.

– Stunned by grief

So far, around NOK 150,000 has been collected for Helen’s survivors.

Helen Rhodes worked as a midwife, and is described as a woman who was always willing to help others. Jeje believes that she was a driving force in the local community in Hong Kong, where the family lived for the past 15 years.

– We only hope that she knew how much she meant to us, and that she can never be replaced. This loss is so painful and unreal. We are stunned by grief, but feel lucky to have known her, writes Jeje.
